Nothing on the TV, again? Bored with staying in? You might be surprised when you see what the town of Harlow has to offer you?

Covering the whole entertainment spectrum from international musical superstars all the way through to the traditional pantomime, the town of Harlow in Essex has something for all ages and tastes.

Based only 25 miles from London and with great access from the M11 motorway, Harlow is a great place to catch the latest films, experience excellent theatre and dance, or enjoy live music at some superb venues.

Now an integral part of Harlow life, the jewel in the crown is the Harlow Playhouse, which opened 40 years ago next year. The opening event was a Gala Show starring Lulu. The Playhouse has now become mainly a venue for touring shows, especially dance, theatre, childrens shows, live music, comedy, drama and musicals. The most popular show of the year is the annual Harlow Christmas Pantomime which is always a fantastic treat for all the family.

In addition to the Playhouse, there are other fantastic live music venues in Harlow . The Square in Fourth Avenue mainly offers a platform for up and coming bands to perform in front of a live audience. However, you never know who is going to appear on stage. Well known name scheduled to appear in the next few moths include the Lambrettas and the Blockheads. The Square does not enforce a dress code and everyone is welcome.

Based at the Harlow Cricket Club in Old Harlow, the other main venue for live music is Marigolds. Well known throughout the area, for its Jazz and Rhythm & Blues sessions, Marigolds always provides great music. With gigs nearly every week, there is always something to be enjoyed at this friendly, atmospheric venue.

Since the Odeon closed down in the town centre several years, movie fans now have to make the short journey to the Queensgate Centre where Cineworld is based. Comprising of 6 screens, one with 3D capabilities, Cineworld shows all the latest films and blockbusters in comfortable surroundings with easy, free parking. They also still offer the traditional Saturday morning movies for kids, with an admission charge of just 1 for children & adults. How great is that?

If you love sports, then Harlow has a vast choice to offer. A much needed new sports centre is also due to open in Spring 2010. This will provide local people with state of the art sporting facilities and finally, after the last one was allowed to become controversially derelict, their own swimming pool. Competitors based in the Harlow area during the 2012 Olympics, will be offered the chance to train at using these excellent modern facilities.

In regards to local sports, the soccer team is unfortunately struggling in the lower echelons of non-league football, but the local basketball team, the Hawks, continue to go from strength to strength. The town also boasts its very own Greyhound track, based at the Pinnacles, which offers a great night out for the seasoned punter or the whole family alike

Whatever you are looking for, you can see that Harlow really is a great place for entertainment. Why not see what you can find today?
